Tour Description

Hi, I’m Rafa Payá, biker and the person responsible for designing Toro Biker’s routes, and to be honest, the one I’m presenting here is one of the most varied we have available.

Leaving Valencia, we’ll ride through mountain routes where the trees almost seem to swallow the road, climb one of the most famous passes in the Valencian Community, visit a cave that’s over 50,000 years old, enjoy the finest local delicacies, and this time we’ll even head out for a drink at one of Denia’s most renowned pubs and dance until our bodies give up—why not?

The area of Oliva, Denia and Jávea is one of the most privileged in terms of climate, with an average of 20ºC throughout the year and approximately 322 days of sunshine annually, which simply makes it a paradise for bikers. It’s no coincidence that most residents in the area are Germans, Dutch and English who are looking for a pleasant and sunny place to enjoy their retirement.

This entire experience is designed to be enjoyed from start to finish and includes, as always, motorcycle riding, culture, gastronomy and, this time, a bit of partying too—something that’s never a bad idea every now and then, right?

This route is available with a Toro Biker guide for a minimum of 5 participants, and also in “self-guided” mode. Which one do you prefer?

Clothing

Toro Biker provides a helmet, jacket, and gloves for you Always show up for the rides wearing long pants and closed shoes, preferably boots. Flip-flops and sneakers? Not your best choice When it comes to dressing for the weather, pack according to the season and how much cold you can handle. Our advice? Bring extra layers—you can always take something off if you get too hot. It’s way better to be a bit warm and peel off a layer than If you're bringing your own gear, make sure it's in good shape before hitting the road.

Día 1
The departure for our route is scheduled for early afternoon, around 4:00 pm, so we can enjoy a relaxed ride through the coastal towns lining both sides of the National Road 332. Plan to arrive in Valencia mid-morning, leaving enough time for us to pick you up and collect your bike if you’ve chosen the rental option. The idea is not to overload the day, allowing you to enjoy a calm and relaxed journey through the coastal villages between Valencia and Denia. We want to give you plenty of time to savour that very first encounter with your motorcycle and feel the sensations it offers. We’ll arrive leisurely in the late afternoon with enough time to check in at the hotel and enjoy a stroll around Denia, admire the sea, have a soft drink, and then head back unhurriedly to the selected restaurant, where local seafood delicacies await to delight our palates. Here’s an interesting fact: The city of Denia was recognised by UNESCO as a “Creative City of Gastronomy” thanks to its traditional cuisine based on seafood and produce from the land: fish, shellfish, rice dishes, and local products cooked and served in a unique way in one of the most picturesque settings along the entire Valencian coastline. Among its most outstanding dishes is the Red Prawn of Denia, undoubtedly one of my personal favourites. Just between us, it’s not a cheap seafood, but I must say that at least once in your life you have to try it — whether simply grilled with a pinch of salt or included in any of its equally famous rice dishes. It’s absolutely worth tasting. If you’re not a great fan of crustaceans like prawns, don’t worry. Another classic dish is, without doubt, Arroz a Banda: rice cooked in a flavoursome fish broth (which we call fumet) and served alongside the fish or seafood that gave it its flavour. The name says it all, since “A Banda” in Valencian means “on the side” or “separately.” They make the fumet, cook the rice in it, and then serve them separately. Simply delicious — I never tire of it. Besides rice dishes and seafood, there are other traditional recipes such as fish stews, salads with vegetables and fish, and of course we cannot forget the Fideuà, a variant similar to paella but made with noodles instead of rice. It comes in so many varieties that there’s probably a book just describing them all. Personally, my favourite is the Fideuà with Iberian pork secreto, boletus and foie… finger-licking good, a simply incredible pleasure for the palate. So you can already picture the culinary scene awaiting you on this first day — absolutely mouth-watering! After dinner, a stroll back to the hotel and some rest, because tomorrow we have a spectacular route ahead. Good night!

Día 3
Good morning! How’s the hangover? This is one of those days when, just by looking at everyone’s faces, you can tell exactly how much fun they had last night… you know what I mean. Anyway, at breakfast we’ll have coffee and some aspirin if needed, and then set off on a relaxed ride around 09:00 or 09:30, depending on how we feel, heading to El Palmar to enjoy an authentic Valencian paella with chicken and rabbit or an Arroz del Señoret, another culinary speciality of the Valencian Community. Its origin is linked to our renowned writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez — I’ll tell you the story of this rice dish while we wait for it to be served. We’ll complete the meal with a salad featuring Perelló tomatoes, another local delight. Yes, it may sound trivial, but I promise that rediscovering the real taste of a tomato — after being used to the bland supermarket substitutes — is a truly unforgettable experience. Honestly, I still have friends who tried them years ago, and when we chat on WhatsApp, they still remember them vividly. After filling our stomachs, we’ll ride along the El Saler road by the sea, passing the Albufera (photo opportunity included, of course) until we reach Valencia, where those returning their bikes will do so. Then comes the farewell, which is exactly the moment when memories start forming and the desire to set off again on this or any of the other routes I’ve suggested — all of which are available on the website — begins… until next time!

Cave of the Skulls

Denia Spain

The cave is located in the municipality of Benidoleig, in the Marina Alta region. Discovered by chance in 1768 by a local farmer, it was not until the 1920s that archaeological excavations were carried out inside. At that time, the first human remains were discovered, and in the following decades, most of the skulls that can be seen today were found. The most accepted theory is that the Cave of the Skulls was used as a burial site in prehistoric times. The human remains found date back to about 5,000 years ago and correspond to the Neolithic culture. It is believed that the bodies were placed in the cave to decompose, and once only the bones remained, the heads were removed to be placed elsewhere. This explains the presence of so many skulls in the cave. Although the Cave of the Skulls is not very large, with only about 400 meters in length, its interior is spectacular. The stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years create impressive shapes and figures that make the visit a unique experience. In addition, the cave is equipped with a lighting system that enhances the beauty of the formations. To visit the cave, it is necessary to make a prior reservation, as it is a protected and controlled space. Guided tours are conducted in small groups, ensuring a personalized and exclusive experience. Furthermore, audio guides are available for visitors who want to learn more details about the cave and its history. In conclusion, the Cave of the Skulls is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or nature. Its historical significance makes it a very special place, capable of transporting us to ancient times and making us feel a part of the history of humanity. Simmered in a rich chicken and vegetable broth, it's finished over wood fire (often orange tree wood) for a smoky touch. The perfect texture features separated grains and a crispy bottom layer (socarrat). Awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) by the EU in 2022. Served at gatherings as a cultural icon.
